Slow Down, Take It Easy, It’s Christmas

I was driving home on Sunday afternoon after visiting 2 of my friends.  On the way, I noticed blue lights flashing ahead of me.  Highway patrol had a car pulled over.  As I drove by, a memory came back to me.

It was 43 years ago.  A man I worked with was telling about how he was in a hurry to get to work. He saw blue lights in his rear view mirror and was pulled over by the police. It was about this time of the year.  As the police officer approached his car, he was expecting to get a speeding ticket.  But to his surprise the police officer said, “Slow down, take it easy, it’s Christmas.” He wasn’t issued a speeding ticket.

There are many people speeding through life this time of the year. They have so many things to do.  How will they ever get them all completed.  I believe people are distracted and in more of a hurry this time of the year.  Satan doesn’t want us to focus on the true meaning of Christmas.  It’s time to slow down, take it easy and focus on what this time of year is really about.   It’s not about a man with a red suit and packages with bows.

It’s about God’s gift to us, His only son Jesus, who was born on Christmas day.  Isaiah 9:6 reads, “For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given: and the government shall be upon his shoulder: and his name shall be called Wonderful, Counsellor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace”.  Jesus would then go to the cross to bleed and die for our sins. Our speeding ticket for our sin will be forgotten if we believe this.  If you have not accepted Jesus into your life, then this time of the year would be a great time to do so.  You will view Christmas from an entirely different prospective. I’ll end on a phrase that you have heard many times.  “Jesus is the reason for the season.”  All of us here at Inspiration depot wish you a Merry Christmas.
