Is Your Axe Sharp ?
In the mid 80’s, I lived in a rural farm house. One of the ways I heated it was with wood. I would take larger sections of the tree and split it in to smaller pieces. I did this by using an axe. When the axe became dull, it would take a lot of my strength to split the wood. If I didn’t sharpen it, I would become tired. I would then take the axe and sharpen it. This allowed me to split the wood much easier.
Ecclesiastes 10:10 says, “If the axe is dull, And one does not sharpen the edge, Then he must use more strength; But wisdom brings success.”
So often in life our axe becomes dull. Life can tend to wear us out. We use all of our strength to attempt to figure out our situations. After a while, we become weary. At some point we might even give up. When this happens we have someone we can go to and that is God.
God is there to sharpen our axe. He will give us wisdom in addressing our situations. We can get this wisdom by reading His word and going to Him in prayer. I’m going to use one of my favorite scriptures again. Proverbs 3:5-6 says, “Trust in the Lord with all of your heart, And lean not on your own understanding; In all your ways acknowledge Him, And He shall direct your paths". If we want success in our life, we must fully submit our lives to God. This way we will be able to keep our axe sharpened.
